I Am Super Woman

So, What do I do?
In one life, I purvey the funky digs at Moods of Norway to the hip cats around ye olde Beverly Hills (a rose by any other name...)

In my other life, I work with Urban Farming On that note, Scott Hamilton Kennedy, director ofThe Garden will be at Vidiots in Santa Monica on Sat Sept 26.

My my real life, I'm a designer. I sew fabulous dresses, crazy leggings & hem a mean pair of jeans for my buddies. This is my favorite alter ego. Basically I'm Super Woman...evading the bondage of the fashion industry.

How do you design a one of a kind dress?

Easy.

Step One:
First of all, find a victim, friend, or if you're lucky a paying client. Then the fun begins.

Step Two:
Before the insanity begins, establish a deadline & make your self a logical calendar. Next, discuss budget with your client. Will you barter goods or skills? Will you charge hourly? Flat rate? This is up to you, yet VERY important.

Step Three:
Design! Find your inspiration & get to work. For my current project, we loved this blue dressthat Sarah Jessica Parker wore in the Sex in the City movie. I was also inspired by the sleek black number worn by Joanne Woodward in The Long Hot Summer (::sigh:: Paul Newman ::sigh::)

Step Four:
Sew! Since my client is in town for a limited engagement, I've got a muslin mock up ready to go for a fitting when she arrives. Fit is Key. Practice. Since this simple, classic silhouette is all about the fabric, we'll be taking a trip to Mood Designer Fabrics of L.A. to bring the garment to life.

Voila! With a little elbow grease, you'll have it down to a science!
